![]() ![]() ![]() This is because one of the things Oblivion is supposed to do when it quits is to save your settings to its configuration file. The downside to the crashes is that any settings you change (ie video settings, audio settings) won't be 'kept' for the next time you start Oblivion. So the crash will actually help you quit the game faster. If you have a lot of mods or a very old savegame, sometimes quitting the game will take a very long time. But this isn't as bad as you might think. Generally speaking, the game will exit properly if all your mods play nice together, although this is kind of a pipe dream once you're running more than 50 mods. The game has been doing this since day one, but it is greatly exasperated by mods.
